Exclusive: Dennis MacCaulley (Bonshayka): The Quiet Force Behind Ghana’s Finest Radio Drive Time

    Bonshayka

Known in private life as Dennis MacCaulley, and professionally celebrated as Bonshayka, the respected broadcaster is one of Ghana’s most seasoned and disciplined radio personalities. He currently serves as the Drive Time host on Hello FM 101.5 in Kumasi, a leading station under the Despite Media Group, where his depth, calm authority, and refined music sense have earned him enduring relevance in an ever-evolving media landscape.

Born in October, Dennis MacCaulley aka Bonshayka comes from a family whose influence spans both faith and music. His senior sister, Rev. Cynthia MacCaulley, is a renowned gospel musician, and that shared grounding in values, purpose, and creativity has played a significant role in shaping his personal and professional identity.

A proud product of Cape Coast Technical Institute, his broadcasting career took off at Radio Valco in Cape Coast, where his passion for music, strong on-air discipline, and ability to connect meaningfully with listeners quickly set him apart.

His move to Skyy Power FM in Takoradi marked a major turning point, not only professionally but personally, as this was where he met Efiewura Dzokoto. More than a colleague, Dzokoto became a mentor whose guidance helped mould him into the broadcaster he is today. Efiewura Dzokoto remains his number one fan, a figure who understands his craft, temperament, and vision more than anyone else in the industry.

From Takoradi, Bonshayka continued his growth with Sekyere FM at Asante Asokore as programs manager. He later joined Nkosuor FM, serving both as Drive Time and Programs Manager, solidifying his reputation as a broadcaster whose presence commands attention through intelligence rather than noise. During these formative years, he mentored several young talents, including Ali Baba and Libya Borga, who were his students and beneficiaries of his patient, principle-driven approach to broadcasting.

His transition to Hello FM represented a natural progression into a space that matched his maturity, credibility, and professional ethos. Widely described as the definition of a good DJ and presenter, Boneshayker has earned the enviable title “Ndwom Papa Krakye”, meaning “The Gentleman of Good Music.” His shows are defined by thoughtful music selection, cultural balance, and a deep respect for both classic and contemporary sounds, making him a trusted voice among listeners across generations.

Beyond the microphone, Dennis MacCaulley is an accomplished master of ceremonies, having hosted and anchored numerous high-profile events with elegance, clarity, and command. His critical voice spans music, film, and the wider showbiz industry, delivered with fairness, insight, and credibility rather than sensationalism.

He is particularly well-versed in hip-hop culture, its history, current movements, and global relevance, while also maintaining a strong grasp of current affairs, a balance that gives his broadcasting both entertainment value and intellectual substance.

His impact is further evident in the professionals he has shaped. DJ Tablez, formerly of Hello FM, and Micky, formerly of Angel FM, are among those who proudly trace their development to his mentorship, reflecting his commitment to building people rather than merely occupying airtime.

In recognition of his consistency and contribution to broadcasting, Dennis “Bonshayka” MacCaulley has received multiple industry acknowledgements and commendations over the years, both formally and informally.

His work has earned him respect from peers, station management, event organizers, and audiences alike, with citations tied to radio excellence, music curation, mentorship, and event hosting. While some of these recognitions came through structured award schemes, others emerged as honorary acknowledgements from institutions, brands, and communities that have benefitted from his professionalism and influence.

In an industry often driven by short-term hype,  “Bonshayka” represents long-term value. Poaching him to any radio or television station would not be a loss to his current platform, but a strategic gain to the acquiring brand. He brings experience, credibility, audience trust, refined taste, mentorship capacity, and professional discipline, qualities that cannot be manufactured overnight.

Quiet yet powerful, consistent yet evolving, Dennis MacCaulley remains a broadcaster whose influence lies not in controversy but in substance. His legacy continues to grow steadily within Ghana’s media and entertainment industry, proving that excellence, when sustained, never goes out of style
