    Idris Elba needs no introduction. The man behind the iconic Stringer Bell in The Wire and the Asgardian gatekeeper in Thor credits his Ghanaian mother for keeping him grounded. He's also produced films in Accra.


    Boris Kodjoe, remember him from Soul Food or Resident Evil? His father is Ghanaian, and Boris has visited Ghana multiple times, proudly repping the flag on red carpets.

    Peter Mensah was born in Chiraa, a small town in the Bono Region of Ghana. You've seen him as the messenger in 300 screaming "This is Sparta!" or as the wise Oenomaus in Spartacus.


    The Breakout Stars Taking Over

    Abraham Attah changed everything in 2015. He was a young boy selling water on the streets of Accra's Jamestown neighborhood. Then director Cary Fukunaga discovered him. Attah delivered a haunting performance in Beasts of No Nation and landed a role in Spider-Man: Homecoming. He's now a leading voice for young African actors.


    Cynthia Addai-Robinson started on TV shows like Spartacus and Arrow. Now she's starring alongside Ben Affleck in The Accountant 2 and voicing characters in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Her mother is from Ghana's Eastern Region.


    Adjoa Andoh plays the fierce Lady Danbury in Netflix's global phenomenon Bridgerton. Her Ghanaian-British background brings a unique depth to every role she touches.


    Freema Agyeman traveled through time as companion Martha Jones in Doctor Who, then jumped into Netflix's mind-bending series Sense8 and the medical drama New Amsterdam. Her father is Ghanaian.


    David Gyasi held his own alongside Matthew McConaughey in Interstellar. He also stars in Netflix's political thriller The Diplomat. A proud Ghanaian-British actor.

    Ato Essandoh has quietly built an impressive resume: The Diplomat, Jason Bourne, and Django Unchained. He openly speaks about his Ghanaian heritage.


    Kofi Siriboe won hearts as the brooding Ralph Angel Bordelon in OWN's Queen Sugar, created by Ava DuVernay. His parents are Ghanaian.


    Akosua Busia is a legend. She played Nettie in Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple and appeared in Tears of the Sun. She was born in Ghana and is the daughter of a former prime minister.


    Michael Blackson makes us laugh. The comedian, who was born in Ghana, starred in Next Friday and Meet the Blacks. He's also building a school in his hometown.


    Hugh Quarshie was born in Accra. You might recognize him as the villainous Captain Panaka in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.


    Ama K. Abebrese starred in Beasts of No Nation alongside Idris Elba and Abraham Attah. She's also a BAFTA Connect member and a fierce advocate for Ghanaian cinema.


    Nana Mensah wrote, directed, and starred in Queen of Glory, a film about a Ghanaian-American woman inheriting her mother's Christian bookstore. It won awards at film festivals worldwide.


    Eric Kofi-Abrefa fought dinosaurs in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and recently starred in the hit Netflix UK series Supacell.


    Josh Tedeku is another star of Supacell and the BBC series Boarders. He's part of a new wave of young Ghanaian-British actors.


    Chris Attoh is a beloved name in Ghanaian entertainment but also appeared in Grey's Anatomy and the Netflix series Fatal Affair.


    Joey Ansah choreographed and performed one of the most memorable fight scenes in The Bourne Ultimatum. He also appeared in Batman Begins. His father is Ghanaian.


    Sam Sarpong (RIP) broke barriers as a model and actor in films like Phat Girlz and Love Don't Cost a Thing. He was born to Ghanaian parents.

    Mawuko Kuadzi is a casting director who became the first West African member of the Casting Society of America. He discovered Abraham Attah and continues to connect Ghanaian talent with global opportunities.
