Starting Anew: My Journey into English Literature at AAMUSTED

Third Year Second Semester Books minus 3

In 2022, I made a decision that surprised many, including myself to enroll in a fresh undergraduate course in English Literature at AAMUSTED (Akenten Appiah-Minka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneur Development- Tanoso Kumasi, Ghana).

At an age when some of my peers were already settling into careers, I chose to return to the classroom. My secondary school mates were teaching assistance while others are hopeful lecturers I'm the university. Example was Oliver Boansi of IT faculty, in charge of data base.

It wasn’t a decision made lightly; it was fueled by a deep passion for reading literature and a desire to challenge myself in ways I had never before.

    Facing the Challenge:

The journey began with a very real obstacle: tuition and hall fees. Financial constraints were daunting, and for a moment, I wondered if my dream would remain just that, a dream. Yet, I refused to let money define my limits. I explored options, planned carefully, and committed fully. With the help people I will write about in later epistles.

Each challenge only strengthened my determination to pursue what I knew would be a transformative experience.

University Life – Sleeping in Hall:

One of the first real tests of my decision came when I moved into the hall. I was affiliated to Autonomy Hall but due to over population of students especially for those who paid their fees earlier.

I got newly built Opoku Ware Hall (Sika Mpedede). I had to pay extra hall fees since it was different from traditional halls.

I found myself sharing room 9 with students both younger and older than me. At first, the age differences felt awkward, almost surreal. I questioned whether I would fit in, whether I could connect with my peers, or if I would feel out of place.

But those initial doubts faded quickly. Life in the hall became a space for growth, learning, and unexpected bonds. I shared stories, laughter, and late-night conversations with people from diverse backgrounds.

Room 1 and Room 15 notes uncountable.

Those moments, ordinary as they may seem, reminded me that courage and openness matter far more than age or experience.

The Road Ahead – Teaching and University Life:

This story is only the beginning of a larger journey I plan to share. I will chronicle how I started teaching, the lessons I learned along the way, and the realities of balancing university life with personal aspirations.

Each story will reflect not just challenges, but the small victories and insights that define the experience of returning to education with purpose.

    Reflections and Insights:

Choosing to start anew at AAMUSTED taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, courage, and the power of following one’s passion. Age, fear, and financial constraints may present themselves as barriers, but they are never insurmountable when determination and focus are at play.

This experience reinforced a simple truth: it is never too late to pursue knowledge, to embrace challenges, and to create a story worth telling. Every day at university is a chance to grow, to connect, and to discover aspects of myself that I had never known before.

    Closing / Takeaway:

I share this story not just as a reflection of my journey, but as an invitation to others: embrace the courage to start again, no matter where you are in life. Life’s lessons often come wrapped in the most unexpected packages, and every challenge is an opportunity to uncover new strengths, passions, and stories.
