Baby Allegedly Taken to Obinim’s Church: Mother Admits in Court Child Was Given to Congregant, Now in Social Welfare Custody
A young woman has been arrested by the Mamponteng Police in the Kwabre East Municipality after allegedly deceiving her partner about the death of their three-week-old baby, who is now confirmed to be alive and under the care of Social Welfare authorities.
According to reports gathered by Kyidom Online, the woman gave birth to a baby girl on 15th September 2025 and later claimed the child had died under unclear circumstances.
The man, who is said to have covered all medical expenses during childbirth, frequently visited the mother and child. However, during one of his visits in the third week after delivery, he reportedly met another man in the woman’s room, with the baby lying on the stranger’s lap. Shocked by the scene, he took his baby and cautioned the visitor not to touch the child, emphasizing that he could continue his relationship with the woman if he wished, but not interfere with the baby.
This confrontation reportedly angered the woman, who told him he had no right to control her. She further accused him of making her lose her “daily money” from the said visitor. In her anger, she asked him to take his baby away if he wished. The man left peacefully, but that same evening, the woman allegedly called and threatened that if he did not come for the child, she would kill the baby. Unknowingly to her, that conversation was recorded.
Days later, the woman contacted him again, saying the baby had fallen ill and was struggling to breathe due to mucus in her chest. She claimed to have taken the child to the Agona Hospital, where she had earlier delivered, and that medical staff advised her to transfer the baby to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
However, later that evening, the woman’s sister reportedly informed the man that the mother had returned home without the child, claiming the baby had died and that the hospital had already buried her.
The explanation raised suspicion, prompting a report to be made at the Mamponteng Police Station under the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU). The woman was subsequently invited to report to the station on Monday, 20th October, where she was arrested and placed in custody for interrogation.

Following this revelation, police issued an alert to various stations across Accra, particularly the Madina Police, to trace the child’s whereabouts.
In a latest development, when the woman was arraigned before court, she admitted that she indeed took the baby to Obinim’s church, but not directly to the pastor or his wife as earlier alleged. She clarified that the child was handed over to a female member of the congregation.
According to her testimony, that congregant later delivered the baby to Social Welfare, where the child is currently under protection and care.
Police sources have since confirmed that the baby is alive and safe, while further investigations continue to establish the full chain of custody and circumstances. surrounding the deception.
Authorities are also working closely with Social Welfare officials to ensure the baby’s wellbeing and to determine the next course of legal action against the accused mother.
The police are yet to issue an official statement regarding the court proceedings and the ongoing investigation.
