While surfing the Internet I came across an article which I deemed very educative.
"In 1998, I wrote a feature on Prophet Okomfo Anokye. An acquaintance who was then a senior Pastor (Ɔsɔfo) of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (Volta Region's EP Church), went bananas because I insisted that Kɔmfo Panin was a Prophet, "Oyia Adeɛ--Ɔdeyifoɔ", who did prophetic deeds in his time, still extant today.
Dovlo came from a line of EP Pastors, and he recalled I had taken a "New Testament Texts & Ethics Class" with him at Legon (UG), under Professor Pobee. He referenced this association in his piece. Meaning, he knew me.
His remark that SIKADWA was heathen got me riled up!
That is when I decided to do a rejoinder on his article by writing about the Stone of Scone, aka the Stone of Destiny to show how a Sikadwa is kept in his hallowed Church pedigree in Scotland and in England. And, to educate him, and others that the Scottish Presbyterian Church, through which his Church, EP (Germans) was established; believed in their Sikadwa, their Stone of Scone.
ABOUT THE STONE
The Scots believe that the Stone of Scone came from "God" and was the "pillow" that ancient Israel leader Jacob rested his head on when he wrestled with "God" and "Angeles."
Somehow, the Scots claim, the Jacob Stone traveled through Israel, Egypt, parts of western Europe, finally to Ireland. There, Scots took it to the town of Scone in Scotland, from where it got its name.
The Stone of Scone was used as a seat for the coronation of Scottish Monarchs.
In the 1290s, Edward I of England defeated the Scots (listen carefully) and stole the Stone to London where it was placed on the English Coronation wooden Chair at Westminster Abbey (a Church). It was thenceforth used as an accompanying seat for the coronation of English monarchs from the 1290s.
The Scots were furious, as Asantefoɔ were, when the English sought to steal our SIKADWA in 1900.
However, after English Queen Elizabeth I, died without any children to succeed her, Scottish King James I, succeeded to the English throne (a process that eventually resulted in the unification of the two countries).
As Scottish nationalism strengthened, Scottish nationalists were enraged, and demanded a return of their Stone, especially following rumours that German bombs had damaged their sacred Stone. But Buckingham Palace and the House of Commons refused their demands.
In 1950, four Scottish nationalist students managed to remove the Stone to Scotland. A few months later, Scotland Yard intelligence brought it back to Westminster.
It remained a bone of contention in relations between England and Scotland, significantly during Devolution talks.
So, in 1996, it was mutually agreed that the Stone of Scone would be returned to its 'home.'
It was also agreed that it would be returned to England to complete the coronation ceremonies of the English Monarchs.... errr, the British King. And then returned to Scotland.
The coronation of Charles, will be incomplete without the spiritual support provided by their SIKADWA.
When I finished, Pastor Dovlo was educated.
Most educated Africans are miseducated when it comes to our Prophet and our SIKADWA.
But they readily ignorantly embrace the received idea hook, line and sinker.
Asanteman yɛ wɔ Adepa, made possible by Ɔdeyifoɔ Anokye Kotobre".
Piawwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!
