Dark Files #1: Frozen Evil: The Chilling Crimes and Fall of Peter Frederiksen

For years, Peter Frederiksen lived quietly in Bloemfontein, South Africa, as a foreign businessman and gun shop owner. To many, he appeared calm, intelligent, and respectable. But behind closed doors, investigators would later uncover one of the most horrifying criminal cases in modern South African history.

The Danish national shocked the world in 2015 after police made gruesome discoveries inside his home following allegations made by his wife. What authorities found would trigger international headlines, courtroom outrage, and a criminal trial that many South Africans still remember with horror.

Peter Frederiksen was arrested in September 2015 after police searched his home in Bloemfontein. Inside, investigators reportedly discovered preserved female genital body parts stored in containers and freezers. Authorities also alleged that he had carried out illegal mutilation procedures on women over several years.

Reports from the investigation claimed that some victims were sedated before procedures were performed. Police also recovered diaries and evidence that prosecutors later used during trial proceedings. The disturbing nature of the discoveries drew global media attention and sparked outrage across South Africa and beyond.

Frederiksen eventually faced dozens of charges, including rape of a minor, conspiracy to murder his wife, assault, child pornography offenses, illegal possession of firearms, immigration-related violations, fraud, and possession of unregistered medicine.

In November 2017, the High Court in South Africa found him guilty on 36 charges.

One of the most tragic elements of the case involved his wife, Anna Matseliso Molise, who had become a key witness against him. Before she could fully testify in court, she was shot dead in Lesotho in what prosecutors described as a planned killing. The court later ruled that Frederiksen had orchestrated the murder conspiracy.

During sentencing in March 2018, Judge Johann Daffue described Frederiksen as manipulative and dangerous, stating that women and children needed protection from people like him. The court rejected arguments for leniency despite Frederiksen’s age.

The judge declared:

“You must be removed permanently from society.”

Frederiksen received two life sentences along with additional prison years for other offenses. He was also placed on South Africa’s sex offenders register.

Nearly a decade later, the Peter Frederiksen case remains one of the most disturbing criminal investigations ever reported in Southern Africa. Though there have been no major new developments in recent years, the story still resurfaces in documentaries, true-crime discussions, and debates surrounding violence against women and abuse of power.

The case serves as a chilling reminder that evil can sometimes hide behind wealth, status, and ordinary appearances. Even today, many readers continue to revisit the story — not out of fascination alone, but as a warning about manipulation, abuse, and the importance of justice.
